Although it is important to be clear about what you want in relationship, it is just as important to understand what desires are healthy and which ones are counter-productive. The most expansive types of relationships are those where you strive to bring your Self fully. Where you seek less to have someone else meet your needs and strive more to see how you can give of yourself, freely, fully and authentically.
Oftentimes, when people seek out relationships to meet their personal needs they are sabotaged by a common blind spot. Many times when we are trying to get something from another person, what our inner world is actually saying is, “I don’t have this thing (i.e. love, support, validation) within me, so I will look for it in someone else.” The problem is that if you tell the Universe you don’t have something – because consciousness creates – you will manifest more of the experience of not having.
In this regard it is much more productive to look to fulfill your needs in your relationship with yourself. As you strive to bring yourself as a whole person, identifying who you are, who you want to be, and how you can share that in a relationship, then you will attract more of the experience of having – first in your relationship with yourself and then naturally in all of your relationship experiences.
The more you practice giving in your relationships, the more the abundance comes back to you expanded. When you express having something by giving it, you experience more of the having and less of the wanting.
