Where do you focus your attention?

On the question: What CAN I do?
Or on all that you can NOT do?

Yesterday I “accidentally” initiated a political dialogue after re-posting a video-bite of Obama on gun control. As a policy I have always stayed away from political conversation because my attention was focused on what I can NOT do… (i.e. all the ways I feel powerless in the political arena). However, something amazing happened. I discovered what I CAN do through this conversation. Below is an excerpt if you don’t feel like wading through the entire thread. In the meantime, I’m inspired by Kennedy’s famous quote:

“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

In the name of PEACE, I urge each of us to ask ourselves the POWERFUL QUESTION: “What CAN I do?”

I’d love to hear your thoughts… even if for right now, all you see is what you can not do. We meet ourselves where we are at.

My Excerpt:

I will share, that I can count the number of times I have engaged in a political conversation in my 52 years of life on this planet. This has boiled down to two reasons. a) I have always felt ill-equipped – frankly I have felt that to speak credibly and responsibly to any political issues would require me to spend every waking minute in study and research and frankly, politics is not my natural habitat and b) I HAVE dedicated every waking minute to studying within my natural habitat which is consciousness, spirituality, metaphysics, quantum physics and consciousness. This has resulted in a passionate and clear philosophical orientation that goes like this: I do not believe these problems will be solved through politics because the guns and the violence are not the problem. They are a symptom. The problem is our consciousness – individually and collectively – that creates and perpetuates violence. GUNS AND VIOLENCE ARE A SYMBOL – a perfectly clear mirror reflection of our consciousness. In the same way that PEACE and this beautiful example that we are sharing here of tolerance and communication and respectful inquiry and dialogue is a breathtaking demonstration of our consciousness. Evidence that PEACE exists, that LOVE exists. I thank all of you for your part in helping me fortify what it is that I CAN DO in the name of PEACE. I have never engaged in political dialogue of this nature because I always felt powerless. People would say VOTE! Vote! Vote! Act! Act! Act. But I always felt powerless. However, the place I do feel powerful is helping people discover how we ARE powerful when we take personal responsibility for the consciousness that perpetuates violence (too much to write here and my life’s work). I do this one soul at at time. And if entering political discussions and extending an invitation for people to explore THIS path to peace is my place in politics… then THAT I can do.
